Fair Fare.

Hello every one,

Whilst I have been a little on the quiet side in blog land I have actually been busy with Ambrosia Place. I am just about ready to add the final little touches to my kitchen and show you the final pictures but in the mean time I have been to a local Fair and purchased some lovely little items. As you may notice I have shifted my focus to the next room I will be working on, the "twins room" or nursery which it may other wise be called. This will be the room for Ashly and Tibet (hehe, click here to find out the relevance of the names in a previous post). The bassinet you see above may not wind up in the nursery as I think it is for a boy baby, possibly in the Master bedroom so I must check with Miss Mia to be sure.  I did however learn from past mistakes at miniature fairs and purchased this darling little bassinet as soon as I saw it. It is hand woven and sewn by a lovely lady named Dawn who does not have a web site or a computer for that matter. Her work is just delightful as you can see in the above pictures she has sewn not only a tiny quilt but lace trimmed sheets, pillow and blanket, her work is so lovely. I photographed it with a tea died tulle pompom I made for something else and I thought they worked well together.

Next I have a little shell frame to show you that I made my self so that I could use a beautiful little poem written by David Huckvale.David left this poem on my blog some time ago when I posted about my tiny shells and I was so taken with it I thought it should go as pride of place in the twins room. Given Ambrosia Place is set in South Carolina and many beaches are near by I thought shells would be something that the family collected as we do here. These are all little shells I have found on my beach, I have put some regular size shells in the picture to give you an idea of how tiny they really are.( I had to use tweezers to place some of them.) There are some funny shadows on the print but I have also aged the paper to give it a nice patina. I have collected the big shells from beaches in the past but we are not allowed to that any more.

Here is the poem from David incase you cant read it very well. Its perfect for the little girls.

Come walk with me
Along the sea
Where dusk sits on the land
And search with me
For shells are free
And treasures hide in sand

Now last but definitely not least are these exquisite little dolls made by Dawns friend, Win Garside. Neither has a blog or website, which is just as well really, as I think if they did they would be run off their feet. These little dolls are for Ashley and Tibet and will live in their bedroom but I thought they looked pretty in the bassinet for the photo. Aren't they just the sweetest little things, so small they almost fit inside my thumb nail, they have the tiniest little roses in their hair.

I did make quite a few more purchases but I thought I would save them for next time. I am afraid this is a bit of a girly post, not much interest for you chaps out there but next post should be less so.

Happy minis,

ML Fi xx

  2. Oh, I just love all your purchases! Think I will have to visit my brother one year in July, he is in Adelaide, somebody told me in Rheda, Germany that there is a show in Adelaide too, a few weeks apart from the one in Melbourne.

Your shell frame is just gorgeous and the poem is wonderful.

  6. Hi Fi,

I love reading about the happenings at Ambrosia Place. Those dolls and bassinet are exquisite! The poem has such a nice sentiment-that was nice of David.

    1. Hi Iris,

I'm glad you like my little things, it's so nice to get into the pretty things now. I have only just discovered though......hehe,dear me, that David did not in fact write that poem! He writes so many beautiful poems I just assumed it was by him.......lol

      Hugs,

  7. Fi, Ashly and Tibet are so lucky!!!! What a beautiful room they will have. (Isn't there an Ashley in GONE WITH THE WIND, by the way? I think there might be...). Alas, that poem isn't by me, and I don't know who it IS by. Another of Monsieur Anonymous's masterpieces, perhaps. I wouldn't want people who might know better than I to think I'm taking the credit for it! Anyway, it is a lovely little poem and I'm so pleased you like it!!! I love that little crib. It's so charming and delicate. If only I were smaller. Feeling very sleepy today as I didn't sleep well last night - no idea why. I told Ambrosio the Monk Bear about Ambrosia Place and he says he wants to give up his life of cold cells and endless prayers and move in when it's finished. He feels his name qualifies him for the privilege. What do you think?

    1. Hehehehehe, I can't help but chuckle to my self!!! You write so many beautiful poems I assumed it was yours and even when I asked you and you said it was anonymous, I thought you where being modest.....hehehe. Well I am going to have to re do it now because I proudly put your name at the bottom, or perhaps we should go with the theme of Ambrosia place and keep it that way as a reminder of the sentiment?
I think Ambrosio does qualify for a special privilege and I think he should come as soon as I'm finished, no more of those cold dark cells, he needs a nice warm blanket by the fire and a cup of hot tea. Ashley and Tibet would love to have him come play, especially Tibet, she has a particular interest in monks.
Now as for the name Ashley, all I can hear is Scarlet calling Ashley, Ashley......Incase you haven't read my past post on the subject my Nieces are Bailey ( boy name) and India. Mia has always idolised them, I think thats why she came up with those names, quite clever of her at 9 years old. I'm not sure of the boy bayby's name ....maybe Rhett.....or I was thinking Archie, Jay has an alter ego named Archibald Strousehousend, but don't get me started on that!

    2. Re. the poem, all you need to do is put "from" before my name, if you've got that far!

Ambrosio is a strange bear. He really doesn't get on with the others, and always holds his nose in the air. However, I think this is because he's basically shy and has a God complex, so I think a few weeks in Ambrosia Place would do him the world of good. Tibet's particular interest in monks sounds not entirely wholesome. She'll be reading Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey" next. (I presume Tibet is the female of the species?)

Archibald...Hmm, that reminds me of John Betjeman's teddy bear (I'm reading a biography of him at the moment). He loved his Archibald bear, who gave him great comfort on many occasions. Archibald also apparently inspired Sebastian Flyte's bear in BRIDESHEAD REVISITED. What a famous bear!

Archibald Strousehousend!!! I feel another poem coming on....

    3. I think once Ambrosio arrives at Ambrosia Place he will soon put aside his god complex for the warmth of family life , he will forget his shyness and feel that he belongs, there are no judgements made and every one is equal and worthy. I can assure you Tibet is nothing put wholesome, and whilst she is not quite grown up enough to read Northanger Abbey, I'm sure she will read all Jane Austins novels when she's old enough.

What a famous bear! I loved that series way back when, i must see if I can get hold of it. Archibald Stousehousend inspired poem? Now this could be interesting!

    1. Well funnily enough, I had just made them for something I have been doing with my sister, I wanted to see if I could Tea-Die tulle as it is synthetic and i wasn't sure it would work, I left it in there for a couple of days and it did give the tulle an antique look. I'm going to try it with some pale blue this week.
I have even had the sewing machine out Andy, if I get any good at this I'll get you to send over your bedding fabric and i'll make them for you.

  10. I beg to differ! It would seem that 'quite a few chaps' liked your post, after all... Great 'fair finds,' Fi! Wish those artists had a website. I am amazed at the minute shells in your frame. How could you possibly have made that? And it IS a lovely poem, (whoever wrote it).
