Here's the plan.

I know I haven't posted in a while but I have been busy with some other miniature things I will post about soon. So in the meantime I thought I would show you what I am about to embark on. My kitchen isn't finished and it's been that way for a while because I haven't been able to decide what to do for the kitchen sink. I have sketched up what I think will work in the space and with the belfast sink I have. To the left you can see the light out line of the cabinets that flank the AGA oven and to the right is the door. It bothered me for a while that the door opens on to the sink but I figure I'm going to have to live with it.

The front of the cabinet is open as the other cabinets are as I have a lot of GLT's I want to display when I'm finished. I may replace the little arch with a little curtain but I will wait and see. I have some cheepy little taps but I would like something a bit nicer, so if any of you know where I might find some nice tap wear  I would appreciate it.

You may be wondering why I am showing you a picture of a Venetian blind? Well as you may have read on previous posts, I am having trouble getting hold of quality wood to work with. Whilst looking for lace handkerchiefs I found this cedar blind and thought, ah ha! 4mm timber and plenty of it......that just might work. SO, I plan to make my kitchen bench and cabinet out of cedar. 4mm is possibly a little thicker than I would have liked for the cabinet casing but I think I will give it a go and see what happens. As I'm writing I'm thinking I really need to have the bench thicker than the casing, hmmmmm......??

Well thats it for now. I think I will do a few short but sweets over the next week.

Happy minis to you all.

    1. Hi Pedrete,

Yes I think it should bring a lovely smell, maybe when I start to cut and sand? The cedar was a good find as I think its well suited to American homes wich is what this will be. Andy has talked me into posting some images of my house and the plans I have to change it,. So stay tuned.

Always great to hear from you.

      Much love, Fi xx

      Hola Pedrete,

      Mucho amor, Fi xx

  2. That is a great find. I, too, have not liked the quality of wood available, and if I find good wood, it's very expensive. You will have a great kitchen when you get through!

I guess I have to more ingenious looking around for wood.

I can't wait to see more of the kitchen.

    1. Hi Iris,

I know what you mean. Sometimes I think it's a matter of taking the time to find the right places to look.

I just haven't got there yet.

  3. Hi Fi,
I know this isn't going to be particularly helpful given the company is in the UK but I often use http://www.originalmarquetry.co.uk/ for my hard/exotic woods. If you can find something similar closer to home then ask for saw cut veneers. They range from 1mm to 6mm and are very finely sanded. Just a thought.
    Good look with the project

P.S. If you're thinking of modern taps, why don't you make your own with curved aluminium tubing? http://www.elfminiatures.co.uk/Product+Search+PT1nT29ObWNoVjJj

  4. Hi Pepper,

Thanks for your tip. I did google them but I think it will cost me about 40 pounds which in Au is about $65 to post them. What I did do was use the same wording and google Australia and I think I have found some where in Melbourne. I just emailed them, so heres hoping.

    Thanks again,

  5. Hi Fi!

I don't think you should worry about the thickness of wood, using the blind is an inspired idea [a little bird once told me you all call them Venetians!! ;o)] The sink will look FAB! and with your GLTs in place will be stunning! I like the idea of a little curtain too! As for taps, Sussex Crafts in the UK do a great range of taps, plugs, pipes etc at very reasonable prices, check out www.sussexcrafts.com (they are really lovely people too!) not sure about postage, but you can always ask, doubt they'd be all that expensive!

I'm sure you could use some of that old rosewood or ebony you've got laying about for your kitchen counter tops!! LOL! (just teasing!)

Sorry, was interrupted by David who's just borrowed my book on Christopher Dresser! Where was I?

Yes PLEASE show us all your plans for the house!!

    Much love

    Andy xxxx

  6. Hi Andy,

HeHe, yes I thought I should clarify this time. Don't want anyone thinking I was talking about little Italian men!!

I just looked a Sussex crafts and I have seen them before but some how i've missed the taps. I think they will be perfect and a plug too. I saw lots of things I will add to the list.

    Hmmmm, an ebony kitchen top..........hehe!

You must have an amazing selection of books Andy. I hope David is getting ready for another post. My world has been empty without them!!....... ; )

Now as for showing the Doll House my big plans for miniatures over the weekend I think are turning into turning the remans of a 25 meter gum into fire wood.......ugh!!

    1. I have a few!!

Christopher Dresser is one of my favourite designers. He was Victorian (and me a self confessed 18th century fan!!) but his designs were incredibly modern, they still look amazingly fresh today, google him if you've not heard of him.

Burning a giant gum tree doesn't sound like much fun! :(

    2. I do know of CD and I think he's amazing, I think I remember his kettles, way ahead of his time!!

We wont be burning it Andy. That would be a fire risk, we are all about fire safety around here.In melbourne it's cold in the winter so we do have an open fire. We have to split the logs. The tree loppers cut it down and left it now we have to split and stack. Our friend dropped a hydraulic log splitter over here yesterday wich will make a job that would take months hopefully into a couple of days. The logs are the size of a coffee table and we need to get them to fire wood size.

There was a bit of Bla bla for you...... ; )

  7. I like your design for the sink and would be tempted to go with the little curtain too although it depends on the overall style of your room.

I've seen folk use these blind slats for lots of things and even if you come across better wood, I'm sure they'll be worth keeping in your "stash" box for bits where the quality of wood isn't an issue.

  8. Hi Irene,

I think I will go with the curtain too. It will suit every thing else in there. I just wonder if it will be too small underneath the sink. I guess I will know once I make it.

I agree Irene, I think they will be good for practicing at least.

  9. Hello Fi - Guess who!!! A new post will appear on my blog over the weekend. Sorry it's been so quiet. I have a poorly arm which makes it a bit painful to sit at the computer. Boo hoo. (Hope you feel sorry for me!) Anyway it's nice to know I've been missed!
