The year that was!!

As we are all aware the New Year is a time for Reflection of the year that has past and Hope for the New Years possibilities. My initial intention was to post on my latest miniatures but found my self reflecting on the year that has passed and how you all have played a part in it. I would like to dedicate this post to my son Jay, who has faced  the most difficult years of his young life. Having said that, it has been one of the most challenging years of my life supporting him through it. He has just successfully completed his final year of Schooling which included an Art folio and a Media folio along with studying, English, English literature, Music and Psychology.

Above is an image of the first of a series of pen illustrations Jay created based on a waif theme, progressively getting darker as the year went on, I think there were eight or nine in total. The particular feat in creating these images is that each one is at least a meter square, some even larger than that and whilst I spent at least an hour trying to work out how I could enlarge sections of this image to show the intricate paterns of cross hatching that make these pieces so amazing, I was not able to. Jay created all of these illustrations as well as making an amazing movie whilst facing some incredible personal challenges which were at  times debilitating. I am so proud of all that he has achieved whilst dealing with these issues, his hard work has been rewarded by being accepted into the course of his choice and first passion, Film and Media based on his folio alone.

This is were you all come in!! This year has been nothing short of stressful, I could not fully express in words how difficult it has been at times. Having my miniatures to escape too has been a delightful relief and whilst I haven't created that much at all, reading your blogs and having wonderful communications and friendships with you all has been my saving grace. I appreciate so much your encouraging comments and kind words, the great humour and inspiring images. At times I have had tears in my eyes and laughed out loud at some of your comments. I consider you all dear friends and I am so grateful for your support throughout this past year.

I wish you all Great Happiness, Good health and Amazing prosperity!!!!

Much love and big hugs,
Fi xx

    1. Thanks Mins, I really do have hope that this year will be much better.Leaving the shackles of School behind and spending his days at Swinburne doing what he loves most will make a huge difference. He really is a free spirit.

Thanks so much for your kind words and enjoy that beautiful boy of yours, as Elga says, when they are babes you can fix every thing with a kiss and a hug but as they get older you feel more powerless.

  4. Hi Honey
What a lovely Post. Heart-felt and refreshing, by that I mean a welcomed change in Seasonal "tone". I truly believe we are all knitted together for a reason. Of course we "met" through common interests, however, as in most cases when friendships are born, there are many other factors that help the relationship endure. Sometimes just knowing there are friendly people out there who, though they may not fully grasp a personal situation, will not judge and are ready to take off from where a conversation was left.
Happy New Year to you and all your Family, Fi. Here's to 2013...
    Much as always

    1. Thank you my darling,

your words are so perfectly describe the friendships we have made. It is a bond unlike those we make in day to day ( I'm not going to say RL because this is sill RL) and just as you say, it's knowing that there are friends out there that will just pick up where we last left it.

I think we are both looking forward to picking up were we left off with a certain miniaturist that we miss very much.

      Happy 2013 my lovely. xx

  8. Hi Fi, I think each family go through difficult years at times, and it is especially tough when it involves one's children. As they grow older and need to fight through difficult issues one sometimes feel so powerless to help them, it was so easy when they were small and a hug and a kiss fixed everything. I hope that 2013 will be a better year for you and your family. X

    1. Thank you so much Elga,
Such wise words I appreciate so much. I do hope this year will be a brighter one, it has certainly started with a few more smiles, a stark contrast to how New Year started last year.

Thank you for all your advice over the year, you have helped me no end.

  10. Hello Fiona! I can only imagine how difficult it is to see your child go through a rough time in his life. For two days now I have been thinking about what to say to you...many thoughts have gone through my head, but I can't seem to form the right words...So I simply wish you and your family will be able to follow your dreams and have a happy and beautiful 2013! ~Josje~

  11. Thank you so much Josje for your kind thoughts, I truly appreciate your sentiment.

We are all very happy to leave 2012 behind. We can now reflect on how we successfully got through it because there were times I had my doubts we would.

This year has already started with lots of positivity, smiles and happy prospects ahead, so happy and beautiful seems like just the thing.

Warm wishes to you and your family.

  12. Dear Fi,
It was quite a year--so much joy mixed in with so much anguish--it seems for both of us and our families--but we all persevere and plan for tomorrow. What would we all do without the "mini-people" and our families and friends for support?

Your son is so talented and I know he will do well in his chosen field. I wish all the best for him.

I also wish all the best for you and the rest of your family and all your endeavors. I love to read your posts and see your beautiful work and read your kind words. You are truly an inspiration.

About the picture in my post--alas it is not mine but a beautiful living room that I have enjoyed being in.

    Much love,
    Iris

  13. Dear Iris,

I hope everything is okay with your family. Minis are such an important part of our lives and I think there is good reason behind it.
For so long I wondered about my attraction to miniatures until I read the words in our favourite book by Mulvany and Rogers -

In our increasingly frantic lives where communications and mass-produced goods of any kind are freely available, the chance to retreat into a controlled world of calm and personal creativity is beguiling.

How fortunate to have had the pleasur of being in that lovely room.

I wish you and your family a bright and Happy New Year!

    Much Love,
    Fi xx

  14. Hello Fi,
Congratulations to Jay. It is the hardest years that makes us the people we are. If he was able to get into the course of his choice right away that says a lot about how strang he is...especially having gone through difficult times. Bravo Jay! Keep up the fantastic work.
And my dearest Fi, I hope you know just how much we are there for you. getting to know your work, and most importantly getting to know the great, kind lady behind it, has been a pleasure and a priviledge for all of us. Your comments, your pictures, your sttories...you are an incredibly passionate artist and a wonderful friend.
All the best for the new year to you and your family.
    Big hug,
    Giac
