Between the tissue

Hello All,

As promised, another glimpse at some of Ilona's treasures sent for Ambrosia Place. I must say that this item was my biggest surprise. In fact it took a couple of days to realise it was there at all. As I mentioned there were treasures hidden inside treasures and in my correspondence to thank Ilona she mentioned something about undergarments. Undergarments??? Most of you perhaps saw her post on the lovely maid that was upstairs in her attic sewing undergarments for her Mrs but I had unfortunately missed it. ( perhaps the surprise was greater) I went to the box shown below that had a lovely picture of a Lady in her undergarments and between the tissue..........

My jaw dropped, I couldn't believe I missed it!! So elegant, so pretty and such beautiful work, above is a photo I think shows the detail a little better, folded over the arm of the chair is the pantaloons, a full set. Each sleeve is finished with the tiniest tassles and you will see if you go to Ilona's post the most delicate button too.

Immediately with all this lugage and lovely items inside, a story for Ambrosia Place came to mind, the Lady of the house had long been awaiting the arrival of her dear friend, after the loss of her husband she longed for her friend to visit. Here is the scene of the guest room, her dear friend arrived, barley unpacked, too eager to talk into the night about the loves they had lost, missing each others companionship.  The wash basin, jugs, soap dish and towel set for her friend ( all made by Ilona's hands) and her comforts so that she may feel most welcome but almost forgotten as they talk and talk into the night about the year that has passed.

How fortunate I am to have such an imaginative friend! And so talented to!

I hope you all enjoyed my next instalment, more to come, Ilona's efforts do not end there, so I will leave you in suspense yet again with yet another story, but perhaps of the Summer House next time.
Until then I have one thing to ask of you?? I would appreciate so much if you would have a little look at this link I will leave for you. A special young person in my life has made her first short film in support of cyber bulling, those of you that are close to me will know who I am talking about. She has written, directed and edited the 2 minute film her self and is only 14 years old. It is a competition to help raise awareness on cyber bulling and has so far she has been the weekly winner of the competition voted by the organisers. The final competition is voted by the public and she needs a few more votes to be in the running of winning the competition. All you have to do is register your email address and a password then you can give her the thumbs up, don't worry, you wont be inundated with advertising. I would appreciate it so much, there are lots of great competitors but I do think her work is worthy of a vote.

Thanks everyone for trying to vote, I have fixed the link and hopefully this one will take you directly there. XX

  4. Hi Fi! What wonderful elegant gifts Ilona has made for you. And it is rather nice to find another surprise hidden inside. The undergarments are very delicate with beautiful detail. Lovely pictures too Fi!

And as for the video I just watched: Wow! Of course she got my vote (and I did not have to register). I have a 14 year old son, and although thankfully he has never had to deal with any cyberbullying (nor his friends, as far as I know), it is a very important issue to be aware of.
I am very impressed with your girl's film skills, from the story telling aspect to the choice of camera angle. Very well done!! I hope she gets all the votes she needs!

    1. Hi Josje,
Yes Ilona has mad some beautiful things for me, I think one of her special talents is understanding mood of a setting.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I'm glad your son has not experienced cyber bulling, nor has Mia thankfully but I think its such a great way to educate young ones. I have to admit when she showed me the first scenes I was very impressed. Perhaps a future direction for her too.

  7. Hey Fi,
I couldn't get through with the linky either but managed with the cut and paste. I've voted and hope many more will too. Cyber bullying is the most atrocious form of cowardice as far as I'm concerned. It's awful shame that anyone has to go through it. =0(

Thanks for voting. It is atrocious that some stoop to this level, it can have the most dire effect on the victims with the worst consequences. Educating young ones to make a difference with the "Back me up" program is a step in the right direction.

  15. Dearest Fi - What super things for Ambrosia Place! I WANT TO LIVE THERE! I also looked at Mia's video (is that her in the leading role?) It's very good. The use of music is excellent (please tell her I think so!) and I like the way the messages keep clicking up numerically on screen. I know all about bullying, having been beaten up in the art room when the Art Master wasn't looking, on several occasions. Actually, I think the Masters at my school rather approved of bullying, feeling, as I'm sure they did, that it would toughen us up. And I was such a Roderick Usher, I suppose I didn't do myself any favours. Well, it certainly prepared one for society at large, but that's no excuse for it! Perhaps cyber bullying is worse, as it's much more insidious and psychologically damaging. At least if you just get punched in the stomach it's over and done with (until the next time). Ah well. (I might send you my little poem on the subject!)

I'm still busy with Edgar Allan Poe. It's taking a long time to get everything just as I want it, but it's still fun - though exhausting. I'm really looking forward to having the time to go for a walk and draw a new picture!

I think you might enjoy the forthcoming DVD released by the British FIlm Institute/BBC of the 1976 TV series SUPERNATURAL, which I watched avidly every Saturday evening when I was little me. It's got lots of British acting legends in it, and has the charm of being slightly creaky - though some of the episodes are still quite wonderful and they all have very literate scripts. Perhaps Santa, if he's feeling in a Gothic mood, will put a copy of it in your stocking!

    Love

    1. Hi David,
I know things were quite different in our day, especially in a boys grammar school. I certainly couldn't claim that it doesn't exists at Mia's school but I think in comparison to most others it's bullying rates are low, they seem to have excellent structures in place that seem to stamp it out quickly. I am happy you came out of School without too many scars. Doesn't it make you wonder how they would behave if you met them today, quite differently I expect?? Funnily enough today I happen to see from a distance the girl that made my nieces life miserable at school. I am pleased to report she got the face she deserved.

I like the sound of your TV series I am going to look out for that one. I will send a message to you through Andy regarding Mia and her film.

  16. Ugh!

I totally forgot what it was like to be that age. As an obvious target for bullying, I had to quickly learn a few tricks in order to survive. My best idea was to befriend the biggest orangutang in my eight-grade class. If anyone gave me the least bit of trouble I could just whine to my new, knuckle-dragging bestie and: problem SOLVED! I also took cruel delight in turning the tables. At one point in my high school years, this meat-head jock who sat next to me in algebra class kept making boorish innuendos regarding my sexuality until one day, fed up, I looked at him with a confused expression and asked with the utmost concern, "Mark, are you trying to ask me out on a date? Because I'm not gay, but if YOU are --that's totally cool-- but maybe you should talk to the school councilor? Because it seems like you're kind of confused."

The poor darling never bothered me again.

    Good times.

LOVE your Ilona surprise! She is such an incredible talent. Your back-story is so charming. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I am so happy to see new Fi posts!

    XOXO,
    John

    1. Hello my lovely!

I did like the tale of sweet revenge on your bully, in fact I find it very difficult to imagine anyone getting the better of you, that witty tongue of yours surely outsmarting any thick-head jock. I know Jay had similar problems with jocks because he was not particularly sporty but once in the classroom the tables were turned and Jay once said to one of the jocks who was giving him crap 'listen, if your brain is any indication of the size of you *bleep*....your in serious trouble man" much to the amusement of the whole class.

Thanks for the vote lovey! Thumbs up for you...; )

  20. Dear Fiona , I have neglected for a long time all the blogs ( including mine) : sometimes life can be so hectic ...
Now , with difficulty, I try to retrieve the reading of my favorites, and of course I could not miss from your : I see that there have been extraordinary novelties :-)
The surprise you received from Ilona is fabulous (so much that I asked her to do a suitcase for my cottage too) , and I think that your photos do justice to this beautiful work : you managed to create a charming and elegant atmosphere .
Waiting to see everything else I never tire of watching every detail of this :-)
I've just been to see the video and of course I left my vote ( I hope is not too late) : it seems to me very strongly. I have a child of four and a half years and I fear with the possibility that in the future have to face problems like this ...
For this reason, I try to make them live a childhood based on trust in the love and understanding of the parents, so that we can be the first to rush in case of need .
Extend my compliments to the author, from Italy :-)
    Lovely hugs,

  21. Dear Flora,

Thank you for your lovely message. It is all too easy to loose time whilst looking after little ones, I am surprised you have time for your beautiful blog at all. Ilona's work is so lovely and I must say the suit case is so authentic, it feels like leather to touch.
It is very kind of you to vote for Mia's video, it is a very serious issue ( I only wish I could speak Italian so I may convey my meaning to you properly) I think the most important thing you can do for your children is to (as you say) have a strong open relationship with them so that at all times they feel they can speak with you about any problems they face. Children that are afraid to speak out are most at risk. I am sure with your gentle and kind nature it will be easy to form a loving and open relationship with them.

    Much love,
